It has configurations for anything from just 2.0 fronts surround, 2.1,3.0,3.1 all the way up to 7.2 or 5.1.2 I`m currently running 5.1 Sounds pretty darn good. Bluetooth works seemlessly and on screen menu is awesome.Get a sound bar (just kidding) Do the 1080, 790 is good, but not as good. Reference Klipsch are good speakers, just get large ones for better sound. I like my surrounds to be large too for balance, and Atmos too. If the woofers are too small you just don't get as good of a sound. 8 inches is better than 6, 6 is better than 5, 5 is better than 4. I have a Sony STR-DH790 receiver and a Sony XBR-85X81CH TV. I have 8K capable HDMI w/ ethernet cables rated for 48Gbps. When I do direct connect from the Apple TV to the TV, I can get Dolby Vision at 4K 60hz. When I run the Apple TV passthru through the receiver to the TV, the best video I can get is 4K SDR 60hz. .
